In order for our combined efforts to run smoothly there are certain things that need to be agreed from the beginning

It is important for me to know that you are being honest with me when you have made a fair assessment of the item(s) you want to move and the parking situation at the collection and delivery locations. Reasonable packaging may require boxes of books to be easily lightened by half filling boxes with books and topped up with lighter items. Boxes should be securely taped up. Fragile items should be marked as such or indicated as being fragile in person on the day. Moving is stressful and is made worse by persons without an amiable attitude. During the move I expect teamwork in what is a temporary partnership for the duration of the (un)loading and transportion of your item(s)


I understand that it is difficult to know whether parking is available near the destination address. However, you may note that parking is NOT allowed in that area (near a zebra crossing or traffic lights or double yellow lines etc.)
PLEASE TELL ME WHEN YOU MAKE THE BOOKING 		GUARANTEED ARRIVAL TIMES I guarantee my arrival times at the collection address for removals and both the collection and delivery address for light haulage work.
I will reduce the amount payable if I am late. However, the payable amount shall not be less than the cost of the diesel for the job.

GUARANTEED LOW PRICES Once I have given you a quote I will not change it later even if I encounter additional unforeseen costs.
I will not cancel your booking due to something that is beyond YOUR control.

DUE CARE AND CONSIDERATION I have gained considerable experience as a furniture and light haulage delivery driver and I shall apply that experience to lifting, (un)loading and conveying your item(s). I shall arrive in a van that is fit for the road with the correct insurance and with adequate breakdown recovery.

GOOD ATTITUDE You can expect me to be kind, friendly and empathic to your needs. I will be patient if you need to collect or deliver keys or wait for an estate agent. I shall engage in friendly and lively conversation on a wide range of topics and hopefully demonstrate wit, humour and a decent education. I shall also lift heavy items and provide tools to dismantle/reassemble your items if neccesary.

 GUARANTEED ARRIVAL TIMES I always try arrive on time at both the collection addresses and the destination addresses. By having an extensive knowledge of the UK road network, gained through over a decade of time specific deliveries, I find that I can easily achieve this goal. Because of this, for the period from 25th December to 31st October I guarantee my arrival times at the collection address for removals and both the collection and delivery address for light haulage work.

I have visited France, Spain, Austria, Belgium and Ireland and lived, loved and worked in Greece, Germany and Holland. I have an avid interest in Late Saxon / early Norman history in England.

I have completed numerous trips from Manchester to London and Leeds to London. Consequently, I am able to avoid likely traffic hotspots. Except for Sheffield to London and Nottingham to London runs I use the A1; this is also the best route from York to London. It also allows greater freedom for stopping for refreshment breaks should the customer be travelling in the van.

Getting a quote and making a booking

The herdthecats procedure in securing a booking for a time and date of your choice is as follows:

Take your time in deciding what to say or write in an email.
Some people telephone for a quote. Almost all of them do not have sufficient information to enable an accurate quote to be given.
If you telephone you will be asked to supply
  • the collection and delivery addresses
  • a list of the items that you want to move
  • the number of flights of stairs to the properties
  • how many men you want for the job
  • whether parking is available at both addresses
  • the date you want to move on
Usually, 10am will be suggested to you as being a good time to start. Please say if 10am is not appropriate.

You will be asked to send an email in which you should include all the information you have just given over the 'phone and the quote you have been verbally given.
Emails are always answered in chronological order; the earlier you send an email the sooner it will be answered and your quote and/or your booking confirmed. However, this does not mean your email will be answered straightaway. It simply means that your email will be answered before an email sent at a later time by someone else. Emails are normally answered at 8am and 6pm each day.
IF THERE ARE TWO OR MORE EMAILS REQUESTING THE SAME DAY, THE EMAIL REQUESTING A BOOKING WHICH WAS SENT EARLIEST WILL SECURE THE BOOKING.
If you have just a few items to move and the distance between the collection address and the delivery address is known it will be possible to give you an accurate quote over the 'phone and it will not change later in an email unless there are significant differences between the information you gave during the telephone call and the email you have sent.

All quotes are based on the information you give. If there are signifcant differences between the information you have given and reality the amount you should pay may increase.

Bookings will only be confirmed by email - that means that you will need to send an email stating that you want to make a booking - you should receive a return email confirming your booking.
Please try to keep your telephone calls and emails concise and to the point.

herdthecats also takes bookings for removals into Europe and gives guaranteed prices and arrival times both at the collection address and the address in the destination country.

Prices include all the ferries/water crossings, tolls, fuel and taxes (except import tax where applicable)

It is usual for customers to make their own way if the journey would last more than 16 hours.
Delivery in the destination country is usually made at 10am local time.

Quotes can only be given by email due to the many variables that need to be factored in.

Terms and Conditions
In the event that (un)loading is compromised by circumstances beyond my control (Except for delays caused by traffic or transport services)

e.g.
excessive distances from the parked van to the properties, including height beyond the second storey without a lift
or by waiting for packing to be completed
or by excessive delays in entering the properties

further charges may be levied. Such charges are to compensate for any extra work that may be necessary or for penalty charges that I may become liable to pay to persons with later bookings on the same day or subsequent days which have been impacted on by your booking and is caused by your failure to disclose reasonable information about the location and position of either the collection address or delivery address or by unreasonable delay caused by you.

However, since inception of the business I have levied further charges only five times despite being delayed countless times by countless customers. This is because I expect such things to occur and I have always planned accordingly to compensate for the levels of stress experienced by my customers in preparing to move to a new area.
